Description

A about 25 kilometers from the town of El Chaltén is located the Lago del Desierto, an indescribable paradise that cannot be missed. The lake is part of a provincial reserve dedicated to protecting the flora and fauna of the region. To reach Lago del Desierto you must take Provincial Route No. 23 north along the Vueltas River. During the trip you will be able to observe different meltdown rivers that feed the above mentioned one, as well as the change of the landscape. As the road approaches the lake, the native forest becomes denser, with galleries of giant lengas in some places. Lago del Desierto, in Chile known as Laguna del Desierto, is framed by a lush forest of lengas and ñires and two mountain ranges: the Vespignani range to the west with its hanging glaciers and the Bosque range to the east. This water resource is 10 kilometers long north-south and approximately 1 km east-west. In addition, it is fed by the Diablo River and several meltdown streams that make up this magnificent water mirror. The Vueltas River originates from it and flows into Lake Viedma.
