Description

The Musée de la Poupée is a museum in Paris opened in 1994 that presents the private antique doll collection of father and son Guido and Samy Odin as well as the donations to the Museum. The permanent collection of more than 500 dolls is arranged chronologically from about 1800 to the present, offering a more educative approach that enables a better discovery of the history of Occidental dolls. Exhibits are displayed with scale-model furniture, accessories, and toys from the appropriate periods, all presented as part of very lively Parisian scenes. The museum shows the different functions of the dolls, as a children toy, an educational, decorative or fashion object, etc. The morphologies are presented showing the feminine, children and baby silhouette, each of them also meaning a different way of playing. Different materials show the technological revolutions that change the composition of the dools, from wood to wax, bisque to papier maché, cloth, celluloïd and plastic materials.
