Gilles Clément's Third Garden is a beautiful and often forgotten place in Florence. An extraordinary example of a Garden in Motion.
The term "garden in motion" is introduced by French landscape architect Gilles Clément, who, after putting his studies into practice in the Vallé region of France, revolutionized the classical idea of the garden by focusing on the "friche," or fallow land.
He thus began a long research on uncultivated soils located on roadsides, in abandoned or disused areas, where nature reappropriates the decaying built space.
Gilles Clément classifies these remnants as the "Third Landscape" and revolutionizes the way we think about the traditional garden, letting it live without much human intervention. In this way he changes not only the idea of thinking about the garden but the conception of aesthetics of the garden.
The scruffy look of the garden also offers a view of Florence's Arno riverfront,in short the perfect stop before heading to Piazzale Michelangelo.
