Description

The Tower of London, officially Her Majesty's Royal Palace and Fortress of the Tower of London, is a historic castle located on the north bank of the River Thames. It is one of the symbol of London. The Tower of London is one of the oldest and most important buildings in London: it was founded around 1066, during the Norman conquest of England, and since then has been a powerful symbol for all rulers who made it the emblem of their authority. Initially used as a royal residence, the tower was used as an arsenal, treasury, menagerie, seat of the Royal Mint, public registry office and British Crown jewellery. Over the years, then, has been the focus of adventures truly mysterious and fascinating but that not everyone knows. Today it is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the United Kingdom, is part of the Historic Royal Palaces and is considered a World Heritage Site. The Tower of London consists of several buildings arranged within two concentric rings of walls and a moat. The main attraction is undoubtedly the Crown Jewels, a collection of jewellery belonging to the English Monarchy and still worn by Her Majesty the Queen: here you can admire some of the most beautiful diamonds in the world. In addition to jewellery, you can discover the history behind the coins minted at the Tower for over 500 years, admire the figures of all the armed kings next to their wooden horses, discover the exotic animals that for 600 years were kept locked up in the Tower of London and the imperial crows (legend has it that if all the crows left the tower, the monarchy and the entire kingdom would fall), visit the luxurious rooms where the life of the royal family took place in the Medieval Palace. Not to be missed are the White Tower, built by William the Conqueror in 1078 to inculcate fear and submission in the citizens of London, and the Tower Green, where two of Henry VIII's six wives were beheaded (Anne Boleyn and Catherine Howard).
