Description

Of the 1,200 islands that dot the Adriatic Sea along Croatia’s Dalmatian Coast, Hvar Island is the most famous. The island – Hvar Town, specifically – has long been known as a glamorous destination for posh party-goers, celebrities and uber-rich yacht owners. But the island does not consist of only one town. On the north side of Hvar Island tucked into a deep bay is Stari Grad, Croatia – one of the oldest towns on the European continent.Hvar island beaches are mostly rocky and pebble scattered in numerous bays, inlets and on smaller islands along the northern and southern island’s coastal line. Most of the beaches are bounded by pine trees and low Mediterranean bushes, giving protection during high summer heat. Zavala beach Zavala beach The finer gravel beaches are located on the southwest side of the island facing the open sea, near the village of Ivan Dolac, Zavala and Milna. There are also some natural sandy beaches, mostly on the northern side of the island, due to the fact that the north winds and waves on the north side are stronger and higher than those in the south.
