Description

Barolo is a red wine with a Denomination of Controlled and Guaranteed Origin produced in some municipalities of Piedmont. The area of origin of the grapes suitable for the production of "Barolo" controlled and guaranteed designation of origin wines, whose first delimitation dates back to August 31, 1933, includes the territories of the municipalities of Barolo, Castiglione Falletto and Serralunga d'Alba and part of the territories of the municipalities of La Morra, Monforte d'Alba, Roddi, Verduno, Cherasco, Diano d'Alba, Novello and Grinzane Cavour in the province of Cuneo. Nebbiolo has found in the 11 municipalities of the Langhe where it is produced, just south of the city of Alba, unique pedo-climatic conditions, so much so that it manages to rise above the other productions of Nebbiolo and has taken the name of one of these municipalities: Barolo, precisely. The wines that have inherited the name from the town of origin can be counted on the fingers of one hand: his brother Barbaresco, Soave, Bardolino. Few wines can boast such a deep adherence to their land, but the reason is also the fragility of the vine, whose bunches need a long maturation that lasts until late November. Barolo is a red wine produced from pure Nebbiolo grapes, and must age for at least 3 years, of which at least 18 months in cask. With 5 years of aging it becomes Barolo Riserva.
