Description

The Nahargarh fort, which dominates the great Indian capital Jaipur, is an architectural masterpiece built on the hills of Aravalli in 1734 by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, founder of Jaipur, as a private residence and holiday resort. Over the centuries, many extensions have been made, but they have not altered the original structure. The Nahargarh fort, which in Hindi means "the house of the tigers", was protected by imposing defensive walls but throughout its history it has never really been attacked by enemy troops. Inside there are two beautiful temples that you can visit every day, but the real treasure of the fort is the spectacular view that its walls offer over the Indian city. Nahargarh can only be reached by car or taxi, because it is about twenty kilometers from the train station and bus stops.
