Pienza is a medieval town in Tuscany which is somewhat of a hidden gem, although it still has its fair share of tourism during the summer months. Pienza is located about 1 hour by car from Siena, and it’s well known for its charming alleys with restaurants and artisan shops. From Pienza, you will also get striking views over the Tuscan landscape and it’s true bliss to stroll around this little town and breathe in the medieval atmosphere. The Cathedral and the Piccolomini Palace are some of the most famous buildings in Pienza, dating back to the 15th century. This is a great alternative if you want to visit some lesser-known towns in Tuscany that are still easy to get to. From here, it’s also easy to explore Val d’Orcia, which are famous for its rolling hills and beautiful scenery.
