Monte San Giorgio is one of the most important fossiliferous deposits in the world in the Middle Triassic period, a geological era between 247 and 237 million years ago. The fossils of this mountain, known for their variety and exceptional state of preservation, have been brought to light and analysed since 1850 by Swiss and Italian paleontologists. From the summit of San Giorgio, located at an altitude of 1000 meters, you can enjoy a panorama that sweeps between the lake and the mountains, offering unforgettable views of the region. The international recognition of this deposit is confirmed by the inscription in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2003 on the Swiss side and in 2010 on the Italian side.
